Updated 21 October 2026

Percept Player plays videos you choose. Your viewing history, playback preferences and remembered file permissions stay on your Mac. The app does not include analytics or advertising services or send this information to its developer.

What the app remembers

To show recent videos and let you resume, the app saves each video's file path, playback position, duration and last-played date. Viewing history is limited to the 20 most recent videos.

The app also remembers audio and subtitle selections, subtitle appearance and timing, and the file paths of subtitles you add. Per-video preferences are stored separately from viewing history and do not expire automatically.

Read-only file-access bookmarks let the sandboxed app reopen videos and subtitles you have selected. These bookmarks can include the file's previous and current location after a move. They remain saved until you clear all saved data. They are file permissions, not account credentials.

What the app reads

The app reads selected video and subtitle files, their playback metadata and their contents to play them. It uses display, audio and decoding capabilities to choose a playback path, render colours and provide audio output. It does not request microphone, camera, contacts or location access.

Playback buffers and prepared media segments are held in memory. The app does not save converted video, extracted audio or extracted subtitle files. macOS may independently manage caches, virtual memory and diagnostic reports.

Connections and sharing

For some formats, the app passes media between playback components using a temporary connection within the same Mac. This connection uses the loopback address 127.0.0.1; it does not upload the video to an Internet service.

Percept Player has no account system, advertising SDK, analytics service, cloud-sync service or app-installed crash-upload service. Its bundled media libraries are configured for local playback. The app does not sell or share your viewing history, file paths, playback settings or media with its developer or advertisers.

Files you select from iCloud, another file provider or a network drive can cause macOS or that provider to transfer data to make the file available. Those services operate under their own policies. Apple's system diagnostics and any reports you choose to send separately are also governed by the relevant system settings and services.

Your choices and deleting saved data

Open Percept Player > Settings to manage saved data. Clear Viewing History stops playback and removes recent videos and resume positions. Audio and subtitle preferences, added subtitle references and remembered file permissions are kept.

Clear All Saved Data stops playback and removes history, resume positions, per-video audio and subtitle preferences, added subtitle references and all remembered file bookmarks. It restores the default subtitle appearance. Select video and subtitle files again to grant access and start saving new choices.

Neither action deletes or changes your original video or subtitle files. Removing one video from the recent list removes only that history entry. Operating-system records, file-provider data and existing backups are outside these app controls.

Storage and protection

Saved preferences and bookmarks are kept in the sandboxed app's local storage. The app does not add its own encryption to these settings; macOS account protections, device encryption and your backup settings apply separately. File paths may reveal video titles and folder or drive names.

Preferences and file bookmarks have no automatic expiry. Deleting the app does not guarantee removal of its saved container, operating-system records or backups. Use Clear All Saved Data when you want the app to forget its saved information.

Reading this policy online

The included policy can be read offline. If you open its website, your browser contacts that website. Its hosting provider may process ordinary connection information, such as an IP address and request details, to deliver and protect the page. We have added no analytics scripts, advertising or tracking cookies to the policy page. The policy website does not receive your saved viewing history or selected media from the app.

Policy updates

If the app's privacy behaviour changes, this policy and its update date will be revised.

Contact

For support or privacy questions, email perceptplayer@gmail.com. You can describe your question without sharing your videos or viewing history.

If you email support, your email address and the message you choose to send are received through Gmail and used to respond to your request. Support messages are separate from saved playback data. The app does not automatically attach your videos, viewing history or playback preferences to support email.
